How to fix Webber BabyQ + KwikGas connection leak?

Hello.

My bbq is leaking gas from the connector.

I disconnected it a few months ago to move house and decided I'd have a bbq tonight.

But I can't get a good seal now it's leaking.

Nothing about the connector components had changed.

Can anyone help? Thanks

Hello again.

Does anyone have any thoughts about trying the connector with an O-ring or a gasket sealant?

I've removed the plumber's tape and it still leaks.

The bottle connector is nice and clean with no obvious corrosion or damage.

Apologies for the delay in response.

I'd advise that you discontinue use of your BBQ immediately, as leaking gas poses a significant risk to your safety.

It looks like there is an O-ring missing from the tip of your gas hose, which is the likely cause of the leak. Unfortunately, regulations for gas bottles and BBQ gas hoses changed in 2021, and this style of gas hose, which uses a Type 21 POL fitting, is no longer being sold or supplied with BBQs as they are currently in a 10-year phase-out period.

This means you are going to have to replace the hose with a new gas hose that uses a Type 27 LCC27 fitting, and replace the gas bottle with a compatible bottle.

Unfortunately, as the regulations have changed, this is your only option. I'd suggest you contact the manufacturer of your BBQ, as they will be able to offer guidance on what kind of LCC27 gas hose is compatible with your BBQ.

Thanks for the advice to replace my connection system and bottle.

I'm definately not going to use it while there is a leak.

Shame to waste 1/2 a bottle of gas though.

Hi @Noyade,

As the new LCC27 bottles are still compatible with POL hoses, they can still be used with these bottles, but the hoses will no longer be supplied with new appliances.

I can't find anything to indicate that the internal thread would be removed, just that the old fittings on BBQ gas bottles will be replaced with the new LCC27 fittings over the course of 10 years.

At the end of this 10-year period, if the internal thread is removed, it would just mean, unfortunately, you'd need to replace your hose.
