How to fix loose wall anchors for hose reel?

Hello!

So I got a Gardena 30m hose reel installed in one of the brick walls in my property.

The handyman used the supplied wall anchors (plastic) and screws to mount it.

However, the screws became loose after a while. I can pull them using enough force. So the reel falls off if you pull on the hose.

I tried tightening the screws, but I noticed that they just keep spinning. But the anchors seem to be staying in place.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

(I suspect that the anchor has been stripped - any ideas on how I can replace or repair it?)

Thank you!

Hello @jr_phqc

Any chance of a photo of the screws and anchor areas?

Immediate thought, for starters - for me - would be to try larger gauge screws.

Great photos! @jr_phqc

Are the present screws Type 17 wood screws with the 10mm head?

Would it be worth trying M8 Coach screws if the anchors appear to be intact?

If not - we possibly need to re-examine new anchoring.

Re: How to fix loose wall anchors for hose reel?

Hello @jr_phqc

It is difficult to tell if the inserts have deteriorated or not. Parts of it may have been stripped away in the time that it was out there. I suggest pulling the old plugs out and replacing them with Ramset Anchor Plugs or Universal Anchors. Make sure to bring one of the old plugs with you so that you can measure both length and width when getting the new one. To be even safer bring the anchoring bolt with you.

If you need further assistance, please let us know,

Eric

Re: How to fix loose wall anchors for hose reel?

Tried out bigger screws (M8 Coach) and these worked like a charm!

Next time this happens though, I think I might need to pull out the anchors for replacement.

Thanks for the advice!
