An outdoor bathroom lets you relax in tranquil surroundings and makes a luxurious yet practical addition to a home.
Bunnings Workshop community members have created convenient backyard sanctuaries that provide the chance for a quick rinse off after a swim or an indulgent soak under the stars.
Here is some inspiration from member projects for creating an outdoor bathroom at your home.
1. Extend your bathroom outside
The best of both worlds. When community member @Wendy56 renovated her bathroom, she demolished a wall and added a bath set among a lush tropical garden.

2. Add a water feature
A water feature is a calming element that can help give a resort-like feel. In their outdoor bathroom with waterfall feature, member @diybevo combined Merbau timber with render-look cement panels.

3. Use recycled materials
Recycled materials like timber, stone and metal can help add rustic charm and unique character to an outdoor bathroom. Community member @gavincochrane used recycled materials like corrugated iron and even flooring mesh from a piggery as part of his patio enclosed with deck and outdoor bath.

4. Utilise romantic lighting
While an indoor bathroom typically needs bright light, adding romantic lighting to an outdoor bathroom helps create a serence and intimiate ambiance perfect for relaxing under the stars. In their outdoor bathroom “Soak Sanctuary” project, @MandyMum7 used solar fairy lights for romantic night time bathing.

5. Create a feature wall
An outdoor bathroom provides an opportunity for bold design that showcases individual style. Make a statement with a feature wall like member @annettechapman with her outdoor bathroom with freestanding bath and dramatic tiled feature wall with contrasting black tapware.

6. Don’t forget the floor
Dramatic flooring can really enhance a room. Community member @matweb created an outdoor bathroom with solid rock floor that’s both a practical and beautiful use of natural materials.

7. Make a showpiece out of the bath
A bath is often the centrepiece of an outdoor bathroom. But your tub doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Member @nicky67 bought a cast iron claw-foot bath for just $10 before upcycling it in her claw bath restoration project.

8. Install a shower
A simple shower can be a low-cost addition to your backyard that doesn’t require much space or budget. For example, the D.I.Y. outdoor shower by @peta utilised distressed timber slats and affordable fixtures.
