How to hang a china plate on a rendered brick wall without drilling a hole?

I am hanging a plate on a rendered brick wall. I know there is wiring inside the wall where I would usually drill a hole to install a wall plug and screw. What else can I do or use to secure the plate to the wall? I can't use brick wall clips as there is nothing to grip onto.

Are you planning on using hooks such as these Pfeiffer 50mm Black Square Storage Hooks?

Using a wall plug with screws is going to be the best way to go, but having wires run through the wall adds some complexity to the issue. If you can avoid the wires, this would be the best option but ultimately would not be safe without the assistance of an electrician.

You could try using Scotch-Mount Extreme Double-Sided Mounting Tape to mount the hooks. This mounting tape is capable of supporting a fair amount of weight, but you would need to be confident that the contact is strong. If you have textured render, this may not be an option.

I would also like to say a warm "Howdy" and welcome to the community 🙂 Perfect question to start with btw!

As @JacobZ has mentioned you need to be confident of the surface you are sticking to. There are a fair few options available (I fully admit I have not tried any of them 🙂 tho the ability for the hooks to stay on teh shgelves says they really do work.)

I would suggest to try the hook and hang something non breakable but weighing a little more then your plate to see how the surface handles the hook. Say a milk bottle filled with some water to the same weightish or even double it. That way if it falls overnight then cross it off your list 🙂

As to being concerned about drilling your rendered wall. The depth you would be drilling for a rawl plug will unlikely hit anything within the wall. Just as a rule dont drill within straight vertical lines of power points/light switches would be my only suggestion. 🙂

HI Jakob - I tried a velcro adhesive on the back of the plate and on the brick wall as I have read velcro is a good product for adhering to brick walls. It is holding up!

Ultimately a plug and screw would give me the most confidence, but if you are confident it is holding well, then I don't see any issue with that at all.

It's great they've had success, but using velcro to attach to a brick wall would not be my first suggestion, only because it's not a solid connection and could fail over time, especially if bumped. Is there any way you can drill a hole and use a solid connection?
