How to stop ceiling fan rattling at fastest speed?

unfortunately I can’t seem to upload a video with the noise. It’s quite a metallic sounding rattle and only occurs at the highest speed, not lower speeds. But one wants the higher speed when it’s really hot!

I’ve checked for visible loose screws and that doesn’t seem to be the problem.

I did not have the fan installed. What trade would I get to look at this if I can’t figure it out? Air conditioning person or electrician?

At the highest speed - is it still balanced - and not wobbling about?

Sometimes - if they rock at the base, that upper 'cone' strikes the gyprock.

You can adjust that.

Otherwise replace? = electrician.

A metallic rattle at the highest speed could be caused by a few things, but it’s good that you’ve already checked for loose screws. First, make sure the fan is properly balanced at all speeds, as an imbalance can cause vibrations that lead to rattling. Check the blades and ensure they are all aligned and not loose.

If the fan is well-balanced and the noise persists, it's possible that the bearings in the motor have worn out, especially if the fan is older. Worn bearings can cause a rattling sound when the fan runs at higher speeds. If this is the case, it’s best to call an electrician to inspect the motor and internal components. They can assess whether the bearings need replacing or if the fan should be replaced entirely.

the fan does not seem to wobble. So bearings it may well be.

I think a service call is in order.
