How to find a tradesperson near you

We try to encourage everyone to have a go and will happily provide the advice and support you need. If you need a hand with a project, please don’t hesitate to click on the Start a discussion button. We have plenty of community members keen to share their experience and knowledge.

If you need a tradesperson to assist you, customers in the Sydney metropolitan area can utilise the Bunnings Services Marketplace. The service by TooEzi will match your job with suitable tradies in your area. Alternatively, try a site like Airtasker or hipages.

We sometimes get members on Workshop asking for recommendations for tradespeople in their area, but Workshop is a community for people right across Australia and New Zealand so it is unlikely that there will be a member near you who can recommend someone suitable. It's best to go direct to a site that is designed for that purpose.

Your rope light holders have disappeared. I think I can install it with clear outdoor tape. The others I cant do it myself

I live in Melbourne. I have a big swimming pool in my backyard which we rarely use in Melbourne weather.

I like to fill it in and make a nice garden with surrounding area.

I would suggest that you start by following the advice in @Adam_W's excellent guide How to plan a garden makeover. Start by creating that wish list of what you want to achieve from the project. And then if it seems the work is beyond your capabilities, you'll be in a much better position to bring in some professional assistance and be able to clearly tell them what you want for your backyard space. You are also very welcome to reply to your existing discussion and share your goals there. We'd be happy to help as much as we can.

Word of mouth is always a great way to find reliable local tradespeople. Alternatively, you might consider using hipages, or a job like this could be suited to someone on Airtasker. Before engaging someone to do the job, make sure to research whether they are the right person for you. If you did want to give this project a go yourself, I trust our helpful members will have plenty of advice and encouragement for you.

As well as the plastic over your windows, you might like to have a read through this helpful guide: How to Winter-proof your home. There are plenty of neat minor fixes you can do yourself to prevent heat from escaping and the cold from entering your home.

If you've given those sites a try and did not get any results, I suggest looking at your local Manshed Association in your area. I would also recommend calling your local council and see if they have a Home Assist program that helps with home maintenance. Your other port of call would be your friends and family, they might know someone who can give you a hand with your project.

Hi all, not sure if the right section, admins pls delete if it’s not.

im struggling to find a handyman for a small kitchen floor lvt plank install job.

I have tried 3 local realestate agency handyman contacts but they are all too bz or can take it on.

any ideas on how to secure a a handyman to finish this job? The floor is beyond my ability so need to hire someone.

info on the job:

am looking for a quote for install of 2mm polyflor lvt planks in my kitchen on top of old existing tiles. Existing tile area is small, around 5m2. The tradie who started to prep and level the floor is sick so just started the prep, need that job

taken over to completion.

Epoxy was started on the left under the new cabinets so the floor would be level, that needs to be finished so it’s flush with the kickboards, not fussed if it’s not epoxy
On the right side, a small hole 400x80mm will need to be filled in so the lvt planks can be installed flush on the surface.
Entire floor area of the old tiles will need to be diamond scraped/belt sanded , screeded and prepped for plank install. Appears the tile floor at the back isn’t fully level as it is, so floor prep may need a slight build up one the end so the floor is dead level.
I will supply the 2mm polyflor LVT planks but need a install quote for floor prep, adhesive and install of them and also need a quote for the epoxy finishing as mentioned above

I'm sorry but Bunnings does not offer mowing services. I suggest posting the job on either Airtasker or Hipages. My best suggestion is to put in as much detail of the job you want done including the frequency they need to come back during the week.

In regards to the Queensland cooler, are you referring to an Esky cooler? If not, can you please post a photo of the cool box you are referring to? It is possible to build a stand, but we would like to know more about the cooler you are referring to.

The extendable sprayers that are compatible with a garden hose are the Nylex Telescopic Jet Wand Hose End and the Pope Extendable Cleaning Wand.

Can anyone recommend an insulation company or installer who actually achieves great coverage/ does faultless work in Sydney?

I am planning to do following insulation in my first two storey home under construction.

Also what insulation type and what R value i have to go for the following items.

All internal walls in both floors.
External wall of Garage as I will use as office.
Ground floor Ceiling insulation between floors including Garage ceiling and Alfresco.

Thank you for your question on insulation in your new two storey home.

Our members might have some suggestions for insulation installers, but you could also use a service like Hipages or True Local to find a good insulation installer in your area.

The National Construction Code (NCC) outlines the minimum requirement for insulation in new build homes in Part 3.12.1 Building fabric. You might like to have a look through this to understand what requirements there are.

The insulation type and R value you use really comes down to what you are trying to achieve and the size of the cavity available to insulate.

Internal wall insulation is generally more about sound transfer than it is heat transfer as the inside of your home is within the conditioned space created by the insulation in the external walls. The specific insulation you use for internal walls will be determined by the size and depth of the stud bays. An insulation specifically designed for sound dampening such as Earthwool R2.5 SoundShield Wall Batt would be a good choice but remember to confirm the size will work with the cavity.

The external wall of the office should be insulated in line with the NCC standards relating to the climate zone that your house falls in, so this is a discussion you should have with your builder to ensure it is in line with the requirements set out in the NCC.

Similarly to the internal walls, the ceiling cavity between levels is more about sand dampening than it is heat transfer. Once again, the size of the cavity will determine the best insulation that you can use, but a higher R value is usually better. Something like Earthwool R4.0 Insulation Ceiling Batt would be good, but once again, check that it will fit in the cavity before making a selection.

Plumbing pipe insulation will need to fall in line with plumbing regulations for your area. This is a question that should be discussed with your builder and plumber. There are products such as K-Flex Pipe Insulation Self Adhesive Tape that you can consider, but it's best to confirm their use with your builder and plumber.

People says mixed feedback who did internal wall and underfloor ceiling acoustic insulation is not adding much value as still noise pass thru between rooms and floors.
Says better spend 5-6k on stone and furniture than insulation.
Kindly share your experience about your acoustic insulation for internal wall & underfloor ceiling if you done as I am planning to do for my new home under construction. Thanks

Acoustic insulation would be the best way to prevent noise transfer. For 90mm depth and 450mm width I'd suggest looking at Earthwool R2.5 90 x 430 x 1160mm 7.0m² HD Insulation SoundShield Wall Batt - 14 Pack - 90 x 430 x 1160.

The 4.0 insulation is quite thick and typically used in ceiling cavities with more room for thermal resistance, not between floors for acoustics.

As you've mentioned, having a solid stone floor would likely provide more sound deadening than insulation batts. However, is adding a stone floor something you'd consider?

Installing insulation can be a D.I.Y. project. Here are a couple of useful step-by-step guides: How to insulate a wall and How to insulate a ceiling.

Installing pipe insulation is best left to the professionals so you are assured of a quality installation. If you did want to attempt this yourself, it would be best to start by reading through K-flex's installation manual.

Hello community,

I am renovating a kitchen and had the demo guys strip out the old kitchen and tiles. The walls need to be rendered again and I am trying to look for a renderer to help.

Question, I see many people on Airtasker who work with plaster boards and plastering/patching plaster boards. Is what they use to render different when compared to a brick wall? What render should they be using and will they be able to carry out the job if they are experienced only working with plaster boards? Image for reference.

Thanks for sharing your question about rendering your brick wall. The general steps are to clean your brick wall with a stiff bristle brush this will remove all the loose debris in the wall. I then suggest using Dunlop 1L Multipurpose Water Based Primer to prepare the surface for rendering. For the render itself, I recommend Dunlop 20kg Fine Coat Render.

Is that a functioning fireplace you have on the left of your picture? Will you still be using it? Please note that if it is a functioning fireplace, you'll need to use heat rated mortar or mortar that is meant for use around a fireplace. Ordinary mortar will not work around your fireplace.
