Here is our timber floor which is next to our galley kitchen. As you can see, the sealant between planks has decayed away. There are various marks in the timber but no fresh holes or tunnels.
Last few days these piles of debris appear overnight, I suspect in the wee hours, even dawn. At first we thought termites but this doesn't look like wood powder or frass. it's mixed debris of various kinds.
This debris has been present in some of of the cracks, so maybe it has just been pushed up from there. However through the cracks you can see more of this debris under the floor - which is very close to the ground so no underfloor access for humans.
So what is going on here? I imagine a draft wouldn't send up neat separated clumps like this at specific times. My best guess - my only guess really - is a rodent (or insect?) attracted to food debris falling through the cracks is having a go at digging up though the floor, or maybe just pulling crumbs from the debris. Or possibly it's in the house and digging around in the cracks. The timing matches rare occasions in the past when we have seen rat droppings outside the house.
We've been here a couple of years and never seen this before.
