How to fix misaligned cavity sliding door?

We have a cavity sliding door for our powder room. lately it’s been hard to open and close. i checked and the door is not centered and is touching the inner side.

I already removed the centering guide on the bottom side but it’s still not centered. As you can see in the photos there’s scratching on the inner side of the door.

How do I go about to fix this problem? the access to adjust the bolts holding the door is very tight as well. tried it with a spanner and cant get a good grip.

There’s really not enough detail in the images to accurately determine what has caused the issue. However, it’s quite evident that the door is no longer aligned on the track and must be adjusted to re-centre it. To fix this, start by accessing the top rollers. Look for removable panels above the door (often called a pelmet or access strip), and if there’s no obvious access, you may need to carefully remove some trim.

Next, adjust the hanger bolts that connect each side of the door to the rollers; turning these bolts will raise or lower each side and help re-centre the door within the cavity. You’ll likely need a thin spanner, or in some cases a specialised cavity door adjustment tool, as access can be quite tight. Work on one side at a time, aiming for an even gap on both sides and ensuring the door slides without rubbing. Finally, check the track and rollers to make sure there’s no damage or obstruction contributing to the problem.

In your last image, it appears as if the door bracket has released from the roller bolt. You might need to loosen the bolt, push the bracket back onto it and then re-tighten the bolt.

thanks! i’ve removed the access strip already.

Doea Bunnibgs have this tool? My spanners are too thick. can’t access the hanger bolts properly.

Unfortunately, not as far as I'm aware @archerwinmakes. It's likely something included with the cavity kit, but that gets lost to the void over the years. My only thoughts would be to grind or file down a standard budget spanner.

Flicking through your photos It looks like the door may be off the rails? Just confirming it is off center not actually off the rails on one end?

It doesn't look like a Hume system as pictured below @archerwinmakes. It could be a Corinthian, though it could also be any number of other brands. Do you happen to know if it was purchased through Bunnings?

Hi @archerwinmakes, if the rollers are still in the rails yet off to one side it suggests to me that the rail has come loose from the wall of frame, up inside the cavity. It would be best to take the door off (lift it straight up then out to the side that has space) and see what's happening up there. You may have trouble unhooking the door though because if the rail is loose it will move over and may keep the rollers jammed inside it. You may need the help of another person to try to get a lever or long screwdriver up into the cavity to hold the rail back.

I took more photos.

The rollers are definitely still inside the track.

The track looks straight and solidly attached to the frame.

I measured the middle bolt by caliper and looks to be smaller than 11mm.

My home was build around 2015, the roller doesn’t seem to have the quick release capability as well.

Hi @archerwinmakes,

It appears the hanging bolt from the roller is not properly centred within the door bracket. It will need to be shifted slightly to the left at the top to reposition it correctly. You’ll likely need to loosen the nut first to allow for adjustment, then re-centre the bolt and tighten it back into place.

thanks. that’s what i was thinking as well. i ordered a spanner and i will just grind it to fit the bolt.

:) As soon as I saw that second pic it was oh oh, prob the issue :) Crossing fingers when you get the spanner it fioxes it. That nut really should be centered over the slot properly, not half way.
