How to repair curtain rail hole and reattach?

Hi,

My living room curtain rail has come undone (courtesy of little humans), as a result the hole in the wall has also enlarged causing the plug (Ramset 7 x 35mm Green Wall Plugs - 25 Pack - Bunnings Australia) to be unstable and therefore the rail/bracket is unable to be screwed close against the wall.

Any recommendations for repairing - is it worth trying a bigger plug (like Ramset 8 x 50mm Blue Wall Plugs Blue - 25 Pack - Bunnings Australia)? Or will a gap filler be required for the existing hole? This is double bricked wall and I imagine if I am to drill a new hole it may need to be a bit lower than origin? to remain in alignment?

As an alternative option, I was thinking maybe drilling an additional bracket on the upper side of the existing screw?

Any suggestions for products and advice would be appreciated thanks!

Typically, it's best to go with an expanding metal fixing such as a

@joeybinomar. They normally grip better under load than the plastic wall plugs.

I'm not aware of any horizontally mounted brackets.

Hi there,

I attempted with the blue wall plug where initially it looked securely mounted into the wall. However, when I placed the curtains back on, the weight of the curtains must have been enough for the plug and screw to slightly come out. I will need to reattempt with the dynabolt as the 6x34mm is a bit too small for the hole. Will need to seek out a bigger one if I am to use that.

Not sure if there are any alternative brackets that may be able to mount across horizontally over the exisitng curtain rail mount ?

Just checking in to see how you got on with reattaching the curtain rail.

Did you end up using a timber plug, a Dynabolt or another fixing solution? I'd be interested to hear which approach worked best and whether the curtain rail is now securely mounted.
