How to fix cavity sliding door alignment?

the sliding door is out of alignment. I know how to fix it by adjusting the nut on top of the sliding door but need a thin spanner to insert into the narrow gap to adjust the nut. Went to Bunnings and was told there is no such thing as spanner. Any advice?

The only tool I'm familiar with that adjusts the cavity slider assembly is the one from Cowdroy called the "TT346". It's a flat open spanner that has an eight-and ten-millimetre end on it. It is a non-standard stocked item and must be specially ordered from Cowdroy at the special orders desk at your local store. Please note that Cowdroy has advised that this is designed for Cowdroy assemblies and is not a generic one size fits all tool.

I've spoken with Rolltrak and Hume and none of them provide the tool by itself. Hume door has a tool, but it is included in the "Evolution Kit" cavity slider assembly and not sold separately.

One other option is to look at your door frame assembly and see if it has a timber rail cover piece at the top that can be removed so that you can adjust the roller assembly with a regular spanner.

Hi @Mikelaw, my solution is , buy the cheapest 10mm /8mm open end spanner, then using an angle grinder, grind the thickness of the spanner enough to slide into the nut.

I would have suggested the bent spanner as well :) Mmmm you you get your fingers up to the nuts? If you can then maybe loosen off the top nut by fingers and then lift the door from the base and do up the bottom nut. (not confident on this result) If the door has been installed into the frame then surely it should be able to be lifted off the rail?

I think I will wait and see if anyone has a better idea :) Somehow Id rank my suggestions as a last ditch one :)

hi Dave. Yes I can touch the top nut and spin it. I can also lift up the door. I just can’t move the below nut it might stuck on the screw after 15 years

I fix these issues all the time. In fact I just did one yesterday.

Jump onto Mr Windows or Amazon and order a Sliding/Cavity Pocket door spanner. Then loosen the locking nut so you adjust the lower hex head up/down to square the door edge against the jamb. Be mindful that the door hanging bolt doesn't slide inward/outward at the top of the roller carriage. It needs to stay central to the cavity open or the door will scrape against the outer cavity trim.

Once you're happy with the adjustment, winding the locking nut down tight.

Thirty years ago I did the same for a Fisher and Paykel fridge. There were two areas where you could adjust the front door but you required a 'special' 14mm spanner with little clearance - enter the angle grinder.
