The project
These garden beds actually serve a purpose. They are raised mounds that keep water from flowing under the house by diverting it out the sides.
First I carefully lifted the clumps of Liriope and Agapanthus with a garden fork and set them aside.
Then I dragged the soil mound back towards the yard by about 30cm because it had crept downhill over time. I topped it up with half a cubic metre of landscape soil that I bought for $30.
I divided up the Liriopes and replanted them along the front. I planted the top of the mound with pineapple plants that I had grown from pineapple tops, as well as pups cut from our established pineapple plants. Under ideal growing conditions such plants should grow real edible pineapples within two to three years.
A very satisfying way to spend a Sunday – and it kept the CFO happy.
