What tools does a beginner need?
I'm going to move into my own place soon and was thinking about investing in a few tools so I'm not completely depedent on others to do simple chores around the house. What would you suggest as must-have tools for a beginner's tool box?

When to put up your Christmas tree?
Many shopping centres have already put up their Christmas decorations, but when do you reckon you should put up the Christmas tree in your home? We've always considered anything prior to December 1 as too early. What do you think?

Where do you wish you had a powerpoint?
My new apartment is going to be finished soon, and one of the things I want to avoid is regretting that I didn't get something done while the tradies are still around and before I move in. One thing I've thought of is that there's never enough powerpoints at most places I've lived in. Where do you wish you had a…

Would you paint these concrete planters?
Looking for advice please. My new apartment has these concrete planters on the courtyard/patio. I'm concerned they look a little unfinished. Do you think they would look better if I painted them? I know the concrete look is very much on trend but I think they look a bit ordinary at the moment. Thanks!

Pre-handover building inspection
Hi everyone. I bought my first apartment off the plan and it will settle in a few weeks. I've been told that the pre-handover building inspection will be very soon. I've heard a couple of horror stories from people who had a lot of faults in their apartments that were hard to rectify so I want to make sure I get it…

What does your view look like?
I'm getting excited about my new apartment, which should only be a few months away from being complete. I'm not sure what kind of view I'm going to have, but it's on the top floor so I'm hopeful it will be worth gazing at. I would absolutely love a view like this! Maybe next time! What does the view from your place look…

How to stop coriander from going to seed?
I've been trying to grow coriander in pots without much success in recent years. Most recent pot seemed to be going well but has suddenly gone to seed. Is there any way to stop it? Any other tips for growing coriander? I'm based in Melbourne and have been trying to grow it on a patio. Thanks for any suggestions.

Apartment ideas
Hi everyone. I've just bought my first apartment off the plan and am looking for ideas as I can change the configuration a little before building starts. The plan is below. I'm particularly interested in ideas about the kitchen bench. I think it needs to be bigger and I don't really like the idea of having either a…

Recycled glass kitchen benchtops
Anyone seen or own a recycled glass kitchen benchtop? I hadn't heard of them before but when browsing today stumbled across it. Could look beautiful! Just not sure what the rest of the benchtop is made out of? Concrete?

How often do you clean the bathroom?
Like most people, I do not enjoy cleaning. But I do love a clean bathroom. How often do you clean your bathroom? Do you just do it whenever you have a spare moment or stick to a cleaning schedule?

Black spots on lime leaves
I have a kaffir lime tree in a pot that's been doing really well for a few years. Just noticed last night when watering that some of the leaves around the base have black spots. Is this anything to worry about? The tree seems overwise healthy and I've been trying to remember to water and feed it regularly. It doesn't seem…

Modern power points and light switches
I've just seen the Clipsal Saturn Zen range of modern power points and light switches. They look great. Anyone got an alternatives - looking for something that's not ugly for my new apartment. Have also appreciated the previous suggestions about getting ones with USB points built in.

Workshop poll - how many pillows are on your bed?
I get exhausted when I see a bed like this. How much time would you spend every day arranging the pillows in the morning and then putting them away each night? How many pillows are on your bed?

What do you think of mirrored splashbacks?
I'm interested to hear people's thoughts on using a mirror as a splashback instead of glass or tiles. Might give off more light and a feeling of space, but be difficult to keep clean?

Robot furniture creating more space in small apartments
This is fantastic. I have purchased an apartment off the plan and the layout is all set but I would have loved to do something similiar to maximise space. Bedrooms are obviously really important for sleep but it makes so much sense to reclaim that space as living area or an office during the daytime.
