Bunnings Workshop community members love to roll their sleeves up and get stuck into D.I.Y. projects. Whether dramatic room renovations or small furniture upcycling projects, our members show their creativity every day.
This year’s search for Australia and New Zealand’s best D.I.Y. projects again highlighted our community’s skills, creativity and can-do attitude with hundreds of inspiring entries. Kitchen, bathroom, laundry and outdoor makeovers were among the many high-quality projects shared, which can be browed anytime on our project search gallery.
It was extremely difficult for the judges to choose favourites, so we want to thank and congratulate all those members who shared projects with the community. We’ve been really inspired by your work and look forward to seeing what you can tackle next around the home and garden.

Australia’s best outdoor project
Front yard makeover with arbour and paving
With the goal to modernise the facade, create a low-maintenance garden, and build an outdoor entertaining area, this front yard makeover by Kathy in Queensland (@Kn140964) dramatically increased street appeal and amenity. It features a new path, stacked-stone pillars and arbour to complement the rendered and painted house exterior.
Australia’s best kitchen makeover
Kaboodle kitchen reno with island bench
Ana and Brad from NSW (@RenovisionAU) used Kaboodle cabinetry in Alpine profile to help transform a formerly dark and dated kitchen. The cabinetry was purchased raw and painted with Porter's Paints Old Stone Wall.
Australia’s best bathroom or laundry makeover
Laundry reno with concrete trough
Inspired by Nanna's old laundry trough, Pauline and Lachlan from Victoria (@PaulineHawker) renovated their laundry. They used Kaboodle cabinets customised to give a shaker-style look, plus timber benchtops and VJ panels on the walls.
Australia’s best paint project
Powder room makeover with Easycraft panels
Kirsty from Victoria (@EleventhCoastal) used a rich green paint and Easycraft panelling to give her powder room a luxurious finish and make it a talking point in her home. "This is the first room you see when you walk up our stairs and I wanted it to pack a punch," she says.
Australia’s best small project
Walk-in wardrobe reno using Flexi Storage
A custom walk-in wardrobe renovation using Flexi Storage cabinetry tailored to create an L-shaped section and a vanity area by experienced renovators Claire and Derek in Queensland (@Renowayoflife) . Adding trim gave the cabinetry a built-in look, while recessed downlights and LED strips complemented the high-end finish.
Australia’s best renter-friendly project
MDF, Pine and Decor8 Victorian Print glass mosaic tiles were used to create a pair of sturdy side tables from scratch. Alicia from WA (@Alicia_Woodwork) created the perfect accompaniment for her new outdoor lounges.
New Zealand’s best bathroom or laundry makeover
Bathroom reno with bathtub removed
Removal of a bathtub and a towel cupboard helped convert a tight space into a bright and airy modern bathroom. Sam from Feilding (@EuroKiwi) didn’t need to replace the vanity, so it was transformed with paint, modern handles and a stone-look benchtop.
New Zealand’s best paint project
Lounge room makeover with wainscoting
Hume Pine mouldings and subtle paint colours applied with a limewash effect helped to transform a heritage home's lounge room. Jing from Lower Hutt (@selfmade) said she used the paint technique to create texture and movement without overcrowding the space.
New Zealand’s best small project
New internal wall with stained glass
Beverley and William from East Cape (@walkerkaiaua195) used MDF V-groove panels, paint and recycled leadlight windows to decorate a new feature wall dividing a lounge and bedroom.
New Zealand’s best outdoor project
Upcycled self-watering greenhouse
Upcycled materials were utilised by Brad from the Waipa District (@MrBJDavis) to help build a greenhouse housing wicking planters. The project goal was to be more self-sufficient and save water.
