Stencilling and trellis create a striking outdoor feature that's now the highlight of the garden.

The project

After coming up with several designs, I settled on this design and had a vision of making the pattern pop with an embossed look, which is where the plaster came in handy. I used painters tape along with stencils I had at home. It was not any easy process and was also a very time consuming one. But well worth it in the end.

I spent seven long days hand plastering and painting these privacy screens. I should have recorded the process or at least take snaps along the way. I was just so focused on getting it done at the time.

I did use stencils that I had at home for the antique look pattern. However, it was not as easy as I thought or went exactly to plan. Paint and plaster kept bleeding through (making a blurry mess of the pattern) which meant I had to use a fine wooden artist tool to fix and sharpen the pattern free hand.

So happy with how it turned out. My partner helped me assemble the boards to a frame he built. It's definitely the highlight in our garden. And all items were from Bunnings.

Kind of a Big Deal

Inspiring!! Especially your dedication to achieving this work of  art.  I have a screen to build,  so I am thankful for seeing and reading your story.... along with the warnings of time and effort required to get something beautiful and beyond  just functional.

Good Afternoon @naz1

Eye catching comes to mind! It looks stunning

You say you used plaster? I was wondering what type of plaster you used outdoors as I really like how it has come up?

Hi @Dave-1 👋

Thank you for the positive feedback 😀 I actually just used general purpose plaster that you use indoors. However I sealed it with exterior paint. It is still holding up well so far outdoors. Just adds texture and a 3d element

Afternoon @naz1

:surprised: ohhhh yeah! Love using things outside scope. So now the next question  How long have you had it outside? Definently interested to see it after a period of time. Nice idea of using exterior paint.

@Dave-1 I made it almost a year ago and still looks exactly the same. No weather damage so far 😕 but I'm sure in years to come it will endure wear and tear
