revive my canvas awnings please

Happy Census night to all workshoppers. Anybody have experience trying (no pun intended) to refresh / revive canvas awnings. Although they are clearly not new, they are still in good working order. The problem is their faded appearance. Haven't been convinced by the sites I've found on line,and not sure if paint is an

option. I prefer to not replace the canvas if possible. Anyone have a suggestion ? Thank you in advance. Cheers

I would think dye over paint, paint isn't all that flexible.

You can paint them. You would need to thoroughly clean them first. Apparently then the trick is not to apply too much paint, especially on the first coat, otherwise they will become too stiff.

I'm not sure you need to do anything. I like the retro appeal of them. From a distance do they look that bad?

Or, if you're swayed by Isobel's lived in look, then there's fabric protection that will keep your awning looking like the way it does.

Apparently a little goes a long way, but if you want it all, do both processes for a lasting finish.

A big thank you to @Brad @MartyH @Isobel @Andy_Mann for your welcome suggestions. I decided to follow Isobel's advice and let it be for the present. Perhaps I'll like their look better when the garden is done and they are not the only things to look at. I suppose "if it ain't broke don't fix it" applies. Cheers

@Trying, all good, I never jump into things, & invariably (it's never let me down yet), something crops up later that's worked out far better.

Sometimes when I've had brain-lock, or I sense that there should be something out there that I haven't found yet, it's always dropped in my lap.

Just this week, there was an item listed on eBay that I knew was a great deal, it wasn't a must have, but long-term, it would be worthwhile. I put it to Tania & we mulled it over, then next day the "By it Now" price had dropped from $1000, to $850. I had things to do that day, & purchased that afternoon. They arrived at 9am next morning from interstate, & they were in perfect condition. Good things happen.

I know that I'm the luckiest bloke in the world, but life would be so much simpler/rewarding, if people could shy away from impulse.

There you go, it's all going to work out amazingly well, I know it will. 😉
