A bespoke portable workbench with lockable castor wheels, space for her drop saw and plenty of storage alongside D.I.Y. vertical shelving.
The project
With a growing interest in D.I.Y., Tara found that she needed a workbench with decent storage and space for her drop saw. She built a custom portable workbench that gives her the freedom to roll the workbench out and use it by day, and still have space to keep her car in the garage at night.
Tara used non-marking lockable castors with up to 100kg load bearing. She went for the more affordable option in the Bunnings aisle and found that, after two and a half years, "they still work perfectly" even though her workbench has "copped a lot". To other members wanting to build a portable workbench, she advises "when looking at castors, make sure they are suitable for concrete, industrial areas and weight bearing for heavier loads".
After asking the community for ideas about what to add to her workbench, members suggested an attached box to store spare drop saw blades, pencils and tool accessories, hooks for extra tool storage and a slimline drawer under the tabletop.
Tara also cleared space in the garage by building vertical shelves along one wall so she has everything she needs on hand for her next build.
