Bought a couple of Wine Barrels today. I think I will make an outdoor Bar table with one and maybe cut the other one in half for Planters.Anybody have any ideas?
+1 vote for a retro arcade machine.
Wine barrels are fantastic as planters. I suggest an olive tree. Just remember that wine barrels are made to hold liquid, so you need to drill plenty of drainage holes so the roots never become waterlogged. You can use something like flywire or mesh to stop the soil going through the holes. I also suggest raising the base a little so it doesn't rot.
Wow thats a work of art! and a great idea.
Water feature
These look great for entertaining.
This one is also interesting, but not sure how practical it is...
@Wayne If you have any off-cuts, I suggest turning it into a candle holder, I have two of these and love them:
They are great as planters or water features. I like this fish pond:
Inspo if you've got a dog @Wayne.
@Brad might be able to help you with making the pond suitable for fish @Wayne.
Let us know how you go.

Inspo for your outdoor table @Wayne.
Hope you've recovered from your hard drive failure @Wayne.
Did you decide what you're doing with those barrels as yet?
Hi @Wayne,
Hope all is well. This discussion has been really popular, so obviously there are a lot of community members out there also interested in repurposing wine barrels.
Have you made any progress on the bar?
I never made a start on the Wine Barrel project and in fact sold the two barrels that I had to free up some space. My Nephew works in the Wine industry and I can buy barrels direct at anytime in the future. The Bar project is still on the to do list but other things have taken priority just at the moment.
Thanks for the update @Wayne. Looking forward to seeing what else you've been up to.
I love using wine barrels. I use them as is (like a tall table), to support a length of wood to create a temporary bar, have made planters out of them when cut in half and also use as esky.
Also made a dog house out of one for my mother-in-law which turned out pretty sweet.
Cut in half lengthways theyre great for garden beds. Have also seen a coffee table made out of one cut length ways.
Are these water features for sale . I would like to purchase the wine barrels with the old fashion well pump. Is that possible
Hi @Sharon12
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. Thank you for joining the discussion.
The wine barrel water feature you're referring to is known as Water Magic 48 x 67cm Oakden Barrel Water Fountain. It is available for purchase. However, I recommend calling your local store to make sure that they have it in stock before going. It's easy to install and operate and is supplied with a low voltage pump, fittings, and a 3m power cord. My number one tip with this water feature is to clean it often and never operate it without water as it will overheat the motor.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
