D.I.Y. chicken coop project
A PVC pipe chimney allows heat to escape and a hinged lid makes cleaning this chicken coop easy. The project Unfortunately for this project I ran out of treated Pine timber so I had to buy new. Fortunately, everything else is recycled. Let me take you through it. We previously had six Australorp chickens which we found out…

Chicken coop automatic door opener
A home-made automatic chicken coop door to keep chickens secure. The project G'day fellow Workshoppers. We like to get away when we can and I don't like the idea of our chicken coop being left open overnight. I finally got around to designing, building and installing a new auto door for our chickens. This way the chickens…

How to cap silicone tubes?
Has any member come up with a sure fire way of capping silicone tubes/liquid nails/no more gaps etc after use? I have tried screws, caps, bolts etc without much luck. Electrical tape seems to work for up to 2 weeks but air still seems to get in to set the silicone in the dispenser tube. I hate cleaning out the dispenser…

Stubby holder display
My brother in law collects ball caps. He has hundreds of them. Me, I collect stubby coolers. I decided to make a display to show them off. The best thing about it is that the 3rd cooler from the left, top row is from our wedding and has the date on it. I never forget our anniversary. Made from jarrah with a ply backing.…

Front yard makeover
Hi all, I would like to share with you our front yard makeover. I will let the pictures do the talking and include a little bit of commentary as I go. Before. Aaaaand here we go. I managed to borrow a mini bobcat to pile up the grass and excess sand. Paving sand spread to extend paving. (not my best pose) We can now get to…

Automatic chicken coop door opener
G'day fellow workshoppers, Finally got around to designing, building and installing the new auto door for our girls. I was quiet shocked at the price of purchasing a pre-built opener, but I've put together a price list and can understand why these items are expensive. Anyhoo, I will attempt a how-to on this project. Here…

D.I.Y. chicken coop project
Hi all, Unfortunately for this project I ran out of treated pine timber so I had to buy new. Fortunately, everything else is recycled. Let me take you through it. (by the way I am talking about chickens here...) We previously had 6 austrolorps which we found out (with all chickens) are major poo producers. We used to let…

Conduit/Pipe colours
Hi all, I mean't to do this ages ago. It appears that there is quite a lot of renovating going on and I would like to clarify that power, water, gas etc services have different colours to identify them. It is extremely important to install services in their respective colours, not only for legalities, but mainly for…

Wood signs
Hi all, What do get someone who has 2 of everything. Well our dear friends have decided to tie the knot and still have 2 of everything when they moved in together. As I have made a few of these over the years, we thought it was a great personalized gift. First off select a piece of timber suitable for job at hand. For this…

Ute draws
Hi all, I have completed my new set of draws for the back of the ute and I can't believe I didn't take one single photo during the build. I think I was too keen to get them built and installed. I can't seem to find my draft drawing either. I won't go into too much detail so if anyone wants more info, please don't hesitate.…

Raised garden beds
Hi all, I actually thought I had posted this a while back but apparently not. Here are a couple of beds I put together with the help of my trusty labourer (Deb). Just built (as part of our backyard makeover) Approx 6-7 months later and ready for another coat of linseed oil. The above bed was built with 200 x 50 x 3000mm H3…

New drinking hole
Hi all, Thought I would post a couple of photos of the drinking hole. Everything you see is recycled except for the front face of the bar. The mini-orb sheets are all ex-coversheets and spray painted a silver hammertone, the frame for the bar came from an old project, the top of the bar jarrah floorboards and came from…

Where do you get your seeds?
Hi all, There seems to be an abundant amount of places to purchase seeds of various types, but do you have a favourite? Our favourite is called 'Diggers' and they have a fantastic range of heirloom varieties that puts our local shops product to shame. We also buy occasionally from our local community buy and sell facebook…

Grasshoppers
One for the gardening buffs. Over the past 4-5 weeks, we have had all our new seedlings eaten off at ground level. After investigation we found that grasshoppers were the culprit. When we see them we sometime manage to catch them, unfortunately we can't be in the garden 24/7. We don't have chooks, and any sort of spray on…

Patio makeover
Here's some photos of the patio before and afters. We were really lucky to score this. I did a frame using patio tube 76 x 38 at 600 centres. This enabled us to install the alsynite sheeting to the frame instead of the fence. We installed a concrete spoon drain against the fence. You will see why we installed the…

Fish pond and waterfall
Deb and I really like our animals so we decided to put in a fish pond. Of course we couldn't just do a simple pond..... The theory behind the position is because we wanted to bring the garden into the patio and vice versa. The bricks were surplus to the original house build and I wanted to hide the little garden shed. The…

Kitchen Reno
When we first looked at this house, we thought it had everything we needed, but..... ... plum purple bench tops, floating laminate flooring (which was delaminating due to a dishwasher leak) and only 1 powerpoint. Commence reno... Off came the tiles, dishwasher leak fixed, tiled floor, trimmed bench (I just couldn't get the…

Backyard makeover
Finally found some of the photos we took when we started the renovation of our home. Pretty much a blank canvas. 38m3 of sand was removed. I think you can tell the before and after.
