10 screening ideas for outdoor areas

Whether you want to create more privacy at home or just hide an unsightly fence or hot water tank, you have plenty of options for attractive, functional screening.

 

Here are some clever and creative screening project ideas from Bunnings Workshop community members. Please let us know if you need a hand with your own screening project. 

 

1. Feature wall fence with Matrix screen panels by @diy_hausdesigns 

 

Bunnings Workshop member Rufaro combined Matrix screen panels and Merbau decking boards to give a tired old fence a fresh new look.

2. Enclosure to screen hot water tank by @diy_hausdesigns 

 

Rufaro also screened out the hot water service on the side of his house with timber lattice, something also achieved to great effect by another frequent Workshop contributor @ProjectPete

3. Merbau panel screening by @WendyL 

 

Workshop member Wendy hid an old fence and changed the entire look of her courtyard with this inspiring Merbau makeover. Wendy also used Merbau panels to maximise the usable area of her courtyard and hide an unsightly fence.

4. Bin screening and timber mailbox by @cadsman 

 

Using leftover Colorbond sheeting and Merbau decking, Workshop member cadsman created a striking mailbox that cleverly hides his bins. A storage box is another great option to consider for hiding unsightly rubbish bins from view.

5. Privacy screen planter box using pallet timber by @Yorky88 

 

Pallet timber maestro Marty combined a functional and portable planter box and privacy solution with this clever design.

6. Outdoor screening using pallet timber by @AndrewLee 

 

Workshop member Andrew recycled pallet timber as a screening material for his outdoor entertaining area and shadehouse.

7. Front yard garden bed screening by @suequarford 

 

Fragrant plants were utilised to create a lovely front-yard feature that provides partitioning from the street in Sue's popular screening project.

8. Training climbers to screen a fence by @royq 

 

Experienced Workshop member Roy also chose a living screen, training Star Jasmine to cover a fence to dramatic effect.

9. Fire pit entertaining area with custom bench seats and screening by @lcooksey88 

 

Workshop member Lauren used Merbau screening and Un-Real hedge panels to create a stylish space for gathering around the fire pit.

10. Poolside fence makeover by @ProjectPete 

 

Rough-sawn Marri hardwood was used to make a striking feature wall on the fence beside ProjectPete's pool.
