Utilising your walls is one of the easiest ways to add storage to your home without losing valuable floorspace.
From entryways and kitchens to garages, laundries and bathrooms, Bunnings Workshop members have shared plenty of clever ways to turn blank walls into practical storage zones.
Get inspiration from these ideas to help reduce clutter and make every centimetre count.
1. Build an entryway drop zone
A wall-mounted combination of shelves, cupboards and hooks can make everyday items easier to grab on the way out the door. Workshop member @LillyJ used wall-mounted shelves and a low shoe cupboard that doubles as a bench seat to create a practical landing zone for shoes, bags and coats.

2. Create a coffee station with floating shelves
Floating shelves can do more than display decorative items. In Coffee station using Flexi Storage floating shelves, wall-mounted shelves and decorative lining boards create a compact coffee zone with room for mugs, beans and everyday essentials.
10 coffee station projects for your kitchen has more ideas, while @ProjectPete's custom floating timber shelf is an example of using floating shelves in a bedroom.
3. Turn a garage wall into a mud room
Garages and side entries are ideal places for hard-working wall storage. In her garage mud room build using Flexi Storage project, @HousevsSarah shows how a cluttered garage wall can be transformed into organised cabinetry for everyday items. Mud room makeover with upcycled cabinetry by @marisamoloney demonstrates how storage above a bench can make a mud room or laundry more functional.

4. Install pegboards for tool storage
Pegboards remain one of the most versatile ways to keep tools visible and easy to access. Community member @Prawns used Pinnacle metal pegboards to store his hand tools neatly.
Garage storage makeover by @lcooksey88 also shows how pegboards can work as part of a larger garage storage wall with shelving and a bench, one of our Top 10 most popular tool storage projects.
5. Use wall rails and hooks for garden tools
Long-handled tools are often the first to create clutter, so a dedicated wall rail can be a simple fix. Community member @Emma-Lee used heavy-duty rails and hooks to keep tools accessible, organised and off the floor on a brick wall in her garden tool storage project.
Community member @mattylara027 used bike hooks and screws to hang his bikes from the garage wall, freeing up valuable floor space. You can get more ideas from 10 ways to maximise storage in your home.
6. Make use of the space behind a door
The wall area behind a door is often overlooked but perfect for shallow storage. @Tara86 built a hallway bag and shoe organiser - a neat solution to store kids bags and shoes behind the front door.
@renowithrosie shared a simple wall-mounted shoe rack that turns the back of a bedroom door into storage for six pairs of shoes.
7. Turn a laundry door into a cleaning or ironing station
Doors can also help hide practical storage in busy utility zones. Experienced member @Nham fixed a D.I.Y. broom holder to the back of a laundry door to keep brooms and dustpans tidy and out of sight, while @renowithrosie utilised a door to store an iron and ironing board in her colourful laundry.
Workshop member @Nkbarfield installed an industrial hanging clothes rail along with a floating wall feature to their laundry wall, providing much needed storage in a busy area.
8. Add compact bathroom storage
Even small bathroom walls can work harder. The popular toilet roll holder shelf by @Rodney is a great example of combining a bathroom essential with a shelf for styling and extra storage, making better use of a tight space.
Check out the guide at How to build a toilet roll holder shelf.
9. Create a modular workshop wall
For sheds and workshops, modular wall storage makes it easier to adapt the layout as your tool collection changes. Custom tool holders on French cleat wall by @fhk56 uses scrap timber to create custom holders for different tools.
The power tool charging and storage station by @Usedbloom combines charging and storage in one compact wall-mounted unit.
10. Build a full wall storage and display unit
When you need more than a few shelves, modular cubes can be turned into a complete wall system. @VikkiArthur built a large wall storage unit to transform a difficult wall between two doors using cube units, with drawers and cupboard doors added to hide paperwork and everyday clutter.
The elegant glass-fronted custom laundry cabinets by @JoeAzza also provide heaps of storage. Check out our Top 10 most popular storage projects for more inspiration.
