Re: Rose leaves curling

Good afternoon @Debr1 Your rose looks like it has Thrip damage. I just want to tag @Noelle to get her opinion on this. It’s a bit hard to tell from the photo. 🙂🌿

Re: Rose leaves curling

Thank you. There are thrip in the flower buds that I am trying to treat. I wasn’t aware that they attack the leaves like this. The leaves start off red then turn green.

Re: Rose leaves curling

Hello @Debr1

It's great that you've received excellent advice from @mich1972. Thanks for sharing your question about your rose leaves. If you do have an infestation of thrips in your rose leaves, I propose using OCP 750ml Ready To Use Eco-Oil on the top and bottom of the leaves for full coverage. You can also use OCP 100ml Eco-Neem Concentrate as an alternative. Please note that Eco-Neem is a concentrate and must be diluted before use.

Please make sure to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a mask when spraying your plants.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric

Re: Rose leaves curling

Hi @Debr1

New growth on roses is often red, depending on the variety, when it emerges but becomes greener as the leaves and stems develop and mature.

As well as thrips, it's possible your roses are also being preyed on by aphids, which are sap succkers and well capable of causing leaves to become distorted and curled.

The treatment suggested by Eric should control both pests.

Re: How to treat rose leaves curling?

Hi @Debr1,

I am not a green thumb but I do know when leaves curl something is eating them alive (or making a home) which is a good thing because I planted those Lilly Pillies in 2010 (all by myself) and closely watch them (my grown up babies) all the time, in particular early summer when the Aphids arrive because they don't like hot weather.

Prune then spray.
