An outdoor table and bench seats built with Merbau fence panels.
I was inspired by this custom Industrial Table by ogosh for my backyard deck. I could not source any good quality Pine sleepers and am a bit intimidated while working with cupping timber. Previously, I built a low-level deck and encountered many difficulties with cupping Pine. Therefore, I went with Merbau fence panels.
These two benches are ready-made items purchased them from Bunnings. It was just a simple assembly as the box comes with detailed instructions. I picked up this bench because it has the same colour as the Merbau panels.
I added bearers on top of the leg table to line up with the table leg hole with 3 x 2 holes per leg. I am using 42 x 18mm pre-oiled Merbau screening for these bearers. It added approximately 40mm of total table height but still maintained a reasonable height when sitting on the bench.
This was completed by placing the Merbau panel on top of the bearers and I secured it with bolt and nuts.
I then placed in the deck with 2 x Mimosa Merbau Eden benches. The table is steady and not wobbly. Not only because this Merbau screening is hardwood but also each leg has 3 x 2 holes. At this stage I don't see any flex.
