I've got a Shahoot Mulberry in a 17cm pot. It's got a couple of fruit on it already (green). Should I plant in the garden now or leave it in the 17cm pot or put in a larger pot and plant in the ground later? TIA
At this stage, @JAPCAP, the fruit on a young mulberry can safely be removed. As a juvenile plant, it’s unlikely to bring those early fruits to full development, and they’re really just drawing energy away from the plant itself. Right now, you want all its energy going into establishing strong roots and healthy growth, so I’d suggest removing the current fruit.
As for planting, you have a couple of options. You could either move it into a larger pot to give the roots more space, or plant it in the ground. Given that it’s midsummer and temperatures in some areas are reaching extremes, planting directly in the garden now could stress the plant, particularly if it’s exposed to strong sun or heat. Upsizing to a larger pot first can be a gentler approach, giving the mulberry more room to grow while you keep it protected from harsh conditions. Once the cooler months arrive, it’ll be safer to transplant it into the garden, where it can fully establish.
