Re: Help! Ant mound in raised garden bed!

Hi @Curious_Bee,

Ants are usually not a serious issue in garden beds. They do not eat healthy plants or roots and are mainly present because the soil is dry, loose, and well aerated, which is actually a sign of good soil structure. In many cases, ants help by improving drainage and breaking down organic matter. Unless they are farming aphids or severely disturbing young seedlings, they can generally be left alone without causing harm to edible plants.

If the ants do need to be moved on, there are a few food-safe options. Deep watering the bed for several days often encourages ants to relocate naturally, as they prefer dry soil. Sprinkling diatomaceous earth or cinnamon over the mound can also deter ants without affecting food safety. As a last resort, pouring boiling water directly into the mound is effective and leaves no residue if kept away from plant roots.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jacob
