lily pily planted 6 weeks ago. what is this? what should I do about it?
Hi @nikki4455,
Thank you for your question about your lilly pillies.
Having a look at your lilly pillies, they look mostly healthy with a couple of discoloured leaves. The discolouration doesn't immediately jump out at me as being a specific issue, so we'd have to do some investigation to work out what is going on.
What are your watering habits like? How often do you water, and do you water the leaves or the soil?
Have you applied any fertiliser? If so, what kind of fertiliser did you apply?
What was the soil like when you planted? Was it rich in nutrients? Or did you have a sandy soil, or heavy clay soil?
At this point, I don't think any excessive action needs to be taken; maybe just remove the affected leaves and water them with a seaweed tonic such as Seasol. If we can narrow down a potential cause, then we can target our approach, but general good care and monitoring is probably the best approach right now.
Allow me to tag our knowledgable gardeners @Noelle and @mich1972 to see if they have any thoughts.
Jacob
Hi Jacob, thanks for your reply.
I applied seasol yesterday to soil for the first time since planting 6 wks ago.
They watered at the soil level with soaker hose facing down every 2-4 days (depending on soil moisture).
This past week the weather has been extremely windy and hot (over 38*C) every day.
Good morning @nikki4455 It looks like sunburn to me. I don’t think it’s a fungal problem. Also, I personally would push back the mulch around each plant so it’s not crowding the stem , make it like a well. Good luck. 🌿🙂
