Re: please help my roses ...something wrong about it

Hi Jacob,

this is happening to my rose bushes. I’ve scraped the white scale off and have sprayed them with eco oil. The white scale is all over the garden bed, will this affect other plants I plan to plant in the bed? Should I be treating the soil with special chemicals aswell?

Re: please help my roses ...something wrong about it

Hi @egordon,

The scale insects you’ve scraped off will not crawl back onto the plants. Once they are dislodged, they cannot move around or survive. Scale are sap-sucking insects that attach firmly to stems and leaves, and once knocked off, they are finished. The only concern is any you may have missed still attached to the plant, as they will continue feeding and reproducing.

That is where the eco-oil helps, as it coats and suffocates the ones still in place. You might need a couple of follow-up sprays. Keep monitoring your roses and reapply according to the instructions until you see the infestation under control.

There is no need to treat the soil. Scale insects do not live in the soil and will not emerge from there to reinfest your plants. Any new plants you add to the bed will not be affected by the old scraped-off scale.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
