Is this a pest on my passionfruit?

G'day everyone,

I have this vine growing alongside my passionfruit. It looks like it's coming from the same roots so I'm unsure if to leave it or...

Any advice would be appreciated

Re: Is this a pest on my passionfruit?

Hi @topper,

Those two shoots are clearly the plant's rootstock and need to be removed. Passionfruit can be grafted onto the root system of vigorous growing stock. Sometimes the rootstock throws out its own shoots and will soon take over the actual grafted vine if left unchecked. The vines from the rootstock under the graft line do not bear fruit. Snip any shoots below the graft line off as soon as they appear. I'll add a mark to your image below to show the graft line.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
