After replanting my potted golden cane palm in the garden ( full sun) it started developing brown leaves after day 3. Unsure what to do next. Is it underwatering or just transplantation stress?
Welcome to the Bunnigs Workshop community @glenn666. It's wonderful to have you join us and many thanks for your question about Golden cane palm care.
It looks like your golden cane palm is experiencing a bit of transplant shock, which is very common in the first few days after planting, especially for a young juvenile plant. A few factors are likely contributing: if the soil is well-draining, it can dry out quickly in full sun, particularly if the weather has been hot. Even just a couple of hot days can cause the fronds to start browning if the roots haven’t had time to establish.
At this stage, the most important things are keeping the soil consistently moist. Check the top five centimetres and water again whenever it starts to dry out, and providing some temporary protection from direct sun, such as shade cloth, while the plant establishes itself would be beneficial. Avoid overwatering, but make sure it doesn’t dry out. With consistent moisture and a bit of shelter, the palm should gradually recover as its root system starts to take hold in its new location.
