Hi there
please see attached photo. A hole has developed in the (I believe) sand and cement mortar o my external steps. Using drain dye I have been able to determine that rain entering through this hole is running down behind the sandstone cladding and along under the steps below causing algae to develop in the damp and obviously over the longer term will damage the wall and stairs and cladding. I believe water accumulates in that corner a bit as it gets stuck behind the return on the right hand side. I can’t change the drainage without major building work.
What kind of product could I use to fill this hole to prevent further water going in? I imagine I would need to clean in and around the hole before using product. What would you suggest for cleaning? Thanks in advance
thanks I. Advance
I suggest cleaning it with 30 Seconds 1L Outdoor Cleaner Spray in combination with a Sabco Soft Grip Grout Brush or similar. Once the hole is dry, I recommend filing it with Selleys 290ml Grey Storm Waterproof Gutter And Roof Sealant. Make sure to push the nozzle as deep as possible into the hole so that the sealer covers as much area as possible.
I propose using a Pro Renovator 38mm Plastic Scraper to spread the sealer on the surface.
