How to fill in concrete on porch?

Hi,

I've removed a half wall here on my front porch which has left a little step in front of the car here. There is a small channel where the brick wall used to be, and then the remaining non coloured concrete is at a lower height from the painted concrete.

I am contemplating boxing it in with some wood, utilising a bonding agent and then just filling the step here to make it all the same height as the painted concrete but am unsure if this is the correct solution.

Do you have any advice on what would be best way to fill in this step?

Re: Best way to fill in concrete on porch

Hello @squim

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your concrete porch.

I suggest using Bondall 500ml BondCrete Cement Additive along with Dingo 10kg Mortar Mix. Instead of building formwork, I suggest masking the sides of the flooring to prevent the excess mortar from staining the floor area. This will also make it a lot easier to level the patch as there will be no formwork in the way.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hi @squim

I think @EricL has already provided the ideal solution that I would be doing. It will allow you to finish the space dead level with the rest of the landing. I would just add a colouring to the mix to make it less noticeable unless you have some of the concrete paint left over.

Good Evening @squim

I was going to suggest a floor leveler but @EricL 's suggestion is much better. I like the idea of the bonding agent mixed in with the mortar for added strength. That edge next to the car, is that lower then the edge at the rear of the car? You may need to have something temporarily lined up against that edge while the mortar dries. A piece of melanmine with maybe the car reveresed up to it to add compression to the edge?

Yes it’s slightly lower than at the rear of the car. I was thinking of boarding up here, I have pavers in front I can lift so I can hammer in some stakes to support or use the car.
