How to fix brick pathway, remove roots and relay bricks?

Hi workshop crew, I'm looking for some advice for the relaying of some parts of a brick pathway, that have been pushed by some roots.  I'm very happy to lift them and cut away the roots, but am looking for some advice to ensure when relaid they sit plum, even and firmly in place.   Cheers in advance1F900AC2-D73A-4331-9EED-0670FEF75894_1_105_c.jpegDB9DE02E-3770-47C1-B014-86E2AC715520_1_105_c.jpeg4C2FE4F6-9277-4EDC-9AD2-A3695DC5DA6E_1_105_c.jpeg.

Re: Fixing brick pathway, root removal and relaying bricks

Hi @KThomson,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

It shouldn't be too hard to get them nice and uniform once you've lifted them and removed any roots.

I'd suggest grabbing a Trojan All Steel Tamper, a Rubber Mallet and some paving sand.

Once the roots are removed, use the tamper to compact and tamp down the soil so that it is uniform. If the soil level is lower after removing the roots, top it up with your paving sand and give that another quick tamp so it is flat and compact. You can then put the paver back in place and tap it down with your rubber mallet so that it sits level and uniform with the rest of the pavers.

When all of the pavers are back in place, you can sweep any leftover paving sand between the pavers to help lock them in place. If you wanted to go the extra mile, use polymeric sand between the pavers. It has a polymer bonding agent that will activate when watered to lock the pavers in place.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jacob
