How to lay gravel on sloped front yard?

Hi Bunnings Community,

I’m planning to landscape my front yard with Australian native plants and gravel to achieve a coastal theme. The yard has a gentle slope, and I’m looking for advice on how to lay the gravel and prep the ground in a way that prevents it from washing away during rain.

I’d also like to understand more about irrigation installation for this type of landscape.

Any tips, recommendations, or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Re: Gravel Options

Hello @nikita345

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your gravel options.

One way to create support for your gravel is to install Icon Plastics 100mm x 10m Slate Grey Garden Edge. If for example the slope is around 3 meters long, I suggest installing the edging every one meter. This creates a break in the flow of water and slows it down preventing it from gathering momentum and moving the gravel on the surface. In regards to irrigation, I propose installing a French drain at the very bottom of the slope so that water will be carried away properly and not gather at the bottom of the slope.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @nikita345.

I would recommend you share some photos of your front yard so our members can see what you are working with. We will then be in a much better position to provide advice.

Please let me know if you need a hand sharing some images.

Re: How to lay gravel on sloped front yard?

Good morning @nikita345

Some photos would make it a lot easier to visulize  An overall shot, shots of various hard/solid things you have in the garden such as trees/garden beds.

As to how to stop gravel wanting to drift downhill how about having a look at these Strol 0.5m² PebbleLock Permeable Pavers I have seen various types of these used on sloped driveways and they seem to do a decent job. Bunnings have two different styles I think. I have wanted over and looked at them for various pathways Iv wanted to install. They are generally down near the bessa blocks in stores.
