How to repair driveway concrete?

Hi mates,

We would like to repair and improve the concrete driveway.
How to fill up the cracks and enlarge the existing narrow concrete driveway?

Re: How to repair driveway concrete?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Kchoi. It's sensational to have you join us and many thanks for your questions on repairing a driveway.

Filling the cracks can be done with a concrete filler or patching compound, or if there’s still some movement in the slab you could use a flexible product like Sikaflex 11FC.

Since it’s quite a long driveway, widening it will be a bigger job. The proper way would be to excavate the sides, tie the new sections into the existing driveway with reinforcement bar, and pour new concrete slabs alongside. However, the drive is heavily damaged in some portions, and the work and cost involved to widen a damaged driveway might not be worth it. If you were to go to that extent, it would be worth having the broken slabs removed and repoured too.

If you’d prefer something less involved, another option is to excavate shallow trenches along each side, compact the base with a machine, and then lay gravel to create extra width. That avoids the issue of future cracks forming between new and old concrete. We hire compactors for this purpose.

You could also consider paving – even just a single row of pavers down each side can give you the extra width and improve the look without the expense of a full concrete extension. Once again, the area will need to be fully compacted.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
