Existing concrete edging of patio has lifted (from a tree root below which has now been cut out) and cracked.
Any recommendations for a basic repair to make it cosmeticallt look okay (note it will all be painted post repairs).
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @shanc. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about repairing edging.
It looks like that edging has suffered a few full-thickness cracks, so unfortunately, there’s not much you can do to repair what’s already there. The best approach would be to remove the damaged edging back to the edge of the existing concrete slabs. Once that’s out, compact the soil underneath to create a solid, stable base, then set up some simple formwork along the front edge between the post and pillar. You can then re-pour a small concrete section to rebuild the edging.
If there’s been a lot of ground movement in the past, even after cutting out the tree root, it’s worth tying the new section into the existing slabs. To do that, drill holes into the front face of the slabs and insert short reinforcing bars fixed in place with Ramset Chemset. When you pour your new concrete, it will bond onto these bars and help prevent the edging from shifting or cracking separately from the main slab.
Once it’s cured and painted, it should blend in nicely and look neat again.
