What tool to cut decking tiles?

tile.png

Hi,

I'm new to DIY and after advice on what tool would be best to cut decking tiles to ensure a perfect fit. My options are a jigsaw or a multitool.

I honestly don't think I'll ever use a jigsaw again outside of this project, but I want the best tool for the job.

The tiles are made from a combination of wood and plastic.

Thanks

Re: What tool to cut decking tiles?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @BecJ. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about cutting decking tiles.

I suspect a circular saw would give you the neatest cut, though I would imagine using a jigsaw would produce a reasonable result. A multitool, although precise, won't cut through the tiles at any usable rate. Since these aren't one of our products, it might be best to speak with the decking tiles manufacturer to see if they have any recommendations on cutting them. Were there any details in the instruction manual?

What sort of cuts will you need to make? If they are long and straight, I'd recommend a circular saw, but a jigsaw would be the way to go if you need to cut out intricate shapes. Please remember your PPE, including safety glasses, gloves and a face mask.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
