Hello @Garry60
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about garden irrigation.
Successful garden bed irrigation starts with getting to know your soil, your plants, and the weather around you. Watering slowly and deeply helps moisture reach the roots where it is most useful, and adding mulch keeps that moisture in place for longer. Drip lines and soaker hoses can make life easier because they deliver water right where it is needed without much waste. Early morning watering is generally best because it reduces evaporation and lets leaves dry out naturally. It is also helpful to check your system from time to time to make sure nothing is clogged or leaking, and to adjust your watering as the seasons change.
At the same time, it is good to be mindful of some common pitfalls. Watering too often can lead to shallow roots and plants that depend on constant surface moisture, while overwatering can cause root problems and create a damp environment where fungi thrive. Avoid watering in the heat of the day because much of the water is lost before plants can use it. Try also to keep water off the foliage of plants that are prone to mildew. Automatic timers are convenient, but they still benefit from a quick check now and then because they cannot take rainfall or cooler weather into account. Finally, make sure sprinklers are aimed at the soil rather than paths or fences so water is not wasted. With a little attention and care, you can create a watering routine that keeps your garden healthy and thriving.
