How to renovate fireplace?

Good morning. We have a new project in the pipeline to renovate an old fire place and modernize the house.

Although the rustic brick veneer walls are in good condition, we want to change the style of the house to a Hampden Style with more whites and greys (including the outside). We have been reading about Limewash and have decided to give it a try for its simplicity, costs, durability and the final appearance.

We would like to start with the fireplace. If we don't like how it looks, we can always use crazy pavers on top. See picture below:

We are planning to wash the brick and sand the timber around it. Then limewash the brick and whitewash the timber. Any recommendations for the metal frame, the paint and limestone products?

We like the final look of the walls in this picture where the wall is not completely white.

Re: How to renovate fireplace?

Hello @maccifo

Thank you for sharing your question about your fireplace. I suggest having a quick look at this discussion - Living room renovation with whitewashed fireplace by @kbright. It's a great example of how you can transform the look and feel of your fireplace, please note that they used an electric fireplace.

If you have a working fireplace, I propose consulting a fireplace professional first about your plans on limewashing the surface. My best advice in regards to this is to make sure that the products you use are heat and fire rated for fireplace use. The same goes for the paint to be used on the metal frame.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric
