How to install decorative edge for hard plaster next to exposed brick wall?

IMG_1591.jpeg

I have been exposing a brick wall and I now need to find a way to finish the plaster so there is a clean transition from plaster to brick. I was thinking along the lines of a metal beading similar to what would be put on the edge of a tiled backsplash but I am not sure what products are suitable to do this with hard plaster.

Re: decorative edge for hard plaster next to exposed brick wall

Hi @ewan,

Typically, you would use a stopping angle or stopping bead to get a nice flush finish, but they need to be installed alongside the plaster, so in your situation, where you are removing the plaster back to a point, this wouldn't be a great option.

As an alternative, you could install a timber trim like this 31 x 31mm hard up against the plaster to create a transition between the two materials. You could then seal the seams between it and the plaster and bricks with some No More Gaps, then paint the trim to create a seamless transition.

Allow me to tag our helpful members @Nailbag, @AlanM52 and @Dave-1 to see if they have any ideas.

Let me know what you think.

Hi @ewan,

I would go with @JacobZ's 2nd suggestion and use timber trim.

@JacobZ,

The link to that cannot find the product.

Cheers

Hi @AlanM52,

Thank you for pointing that out. I appreciate the assist.

Not sure which link you mean, but these will look for generic items of the same description.

Cheers,

Re: decorative edge for hard plaster next to exposed brick wall

Thank you. To clarify I had to remove more of the plaster than I initially planned as it was damaged. So I will be repairing some of the plaster. Given this the metal stopping looks like the best bet. Do you know if it comes in other finishes? Or is it intended to be painted?

Hi @ewan,

I am not aware of them coming in other finishes, but they can certainly be painted to match the plaster.
