Can you paint bathroom laminate cupboards?

Hello, I am considering revamping my bathroom cabinet, its laminated from what i can tell - and am looking for ideas / solutions as to how / if you can paint.    if i can make a success of this small project, i may tackle the wooden cabinets in my kitchen to also revamp.

Re: Bathroom cupboards (Laminate) - can you paint ?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Hunter4021. It's splendid to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about painting cupboards.

Yes, you can definitely paint laminated bathroom cupboards using much the same process as you would for laminate kitchen cabinetry. A good option is the Dulux Renovation Range of laminate paints, which are designed specifically to adhere to smooth, non-porous surfaces like laminate. The key is to properly clean and lightly sand the surfaces first to ensure good adhesion, and then follow the paint instructions carefully for the best results. With the right preparation and products, you can achieve a fresh, durable finish for your bathroom cupboards, and the same approach can later be applied to your kitchen cabinets.

Here's a helpful guide: How to laminate kitchen cabinetry.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Mitchell,

Thank you very much for your prompt response, the information was most helpful.

I am now looking at paint options for the bathroom cabinet - as you can see from the attached photo - i have painted the wall with Tattered Sail (low sheen).  could you offer any colour scheme that would align and lift the overall look of the bathroom cabinet ?

Thanks,

Nick

Re: Bathroom cupboards (Laminate) - can you paint ?

Hi Nick @Hunter4021,

The Dulux Renovation Range Cabinet Paints can be tinted to thousands of colours, so you have a great variety of options.

For a modern, sophisticated contrast, you might choose a deep navy, charcoal, or matte black, paired with brushed brass or black hardware. Some options like Domino, Ticking or Namadji could be good.

If you prefer a softer, calming effect, warm earthy tones such as greige, beige-green, or clay neutrals will complement Tattered Sail beautifully. Options like Still, Gnu Tan or Slight Mushroom might be nice.

My suggestion would be to head to the store and grab yourself a variety of colour cards. You can then take them home to compare them in the space to see what you like. Seeing the colours online is one thing, but having them in the space, with the light levels in the room, will give you a much better picture of what you are working with.

Let me know what you think.
