Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about your shower tray.

Unfortunately, tiling over a steel tray is not advisable. The steel flexes when you step on it, and it is this flexing that makes it unusable as a substrate for tiling. But your desire to tile your current shower area is not without possibilities. You just need to take into consideration taking that next step of removing your steel tray. Some of the things you'll need to add to your proposed project will be wet area floor lining, waterproofing, and tiling. I recommend engaging the services of a tradesperson so that the upgrade will have a guarantee on it.

Thanks for the reply.  I am organising a tradesman to come and look at what I can do. I live in the country so will take a bit of time as I am not in a hurry, I just needed to know if tiling over shower tray was an option or not.
