How do i fix a leaky hot tap?

I would like to fix my leaky hot tap in the laundry.

I have managed to remover the ‘HOT’ cap thingy by unscrewing it.

Now I need help with the next steps, any help would be appreciated.

Re: How do i fix a leaky hot tap?

Hi @MrHowDoIFixIt,

From here, the process is fairly standard for most traditional washer-style taps. The next step is to isolate the water supply to the tap, either at the laundry isolation valve if you have one, or at the main water shut-off for the house. Once the water is off, you can remove the tap handle by levering or pulling it directly off. Once removed, you'll need a tap spanner to remove the spindle from the wall. Inside, you will typically find a rubber washer at the end of the spindle, and this is almost always the cause of a hot tap drip. Over time, the washer hardens, splits, or deforms due to heat.

Replacing that washer with a new one of the same size will usually fix the leak. It is also worth checking the jumper valve and O-ring while you are there, as these can contribute to leaks if they are worn. These tap repair kits include everything you need. Once replaced, everything is reassembled in reverse order, ensuring the parts are not overtightened.

Check out this helpful guide on How to replace a tap washer.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
