I've got a couple of tiles in the laundry near the floor that have fallen off over time.
We still have the tiles, what's the best way to get them back on?
I'm assuming will need to somehow remove the residue on the wall and back of tile.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Jarrod1. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about attaching tiles.
You’ve basically got two workable options here, and both start with a bit of clean-up.
First, you’ll need to remove any loose or flaky adhesive from the wall and the back of the tiles. You don’t need to get it perfectly bare, but you do want a reasonably flat surface so the tile doesn’t sit proud of the others once it’s back on. A scraper or old chisel works well for this. Be gentle on the back of the tile, as it’s very easy to crack it if you try to remove too much hardened adhesive.
One option is to re-fix the tiles using tile adhesive. If you go this route, you’ll need to chip back enough of the old adhesive on the tile so there’s room for a fresh layer. The main reason for doing this is to make sure the tile sits flush with the surrounding tiles. The downside is that removing hardened adhesive from the back of a tile can be risky and time-consuming.
The simpler option, especially since you already have the tiles and only a couple have come off, is to use a construction adhesive like Liquid Nails Landscape. This type of adhesive can be applied in a much thinner layer, so you don’t need to remove as much or any of the old adhesive from the tile. It also has excellent grab and is well-suited to small tile repairs like this.
Once the tiles are back in place and the adhesive has fully cured, you can re-grout the joints as normal to finish it off and seal everything up neatly.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
