Adopted park next door

I have adopted the pocket park next door to my home it is a waterfront park that  BC was dry salty reclaimed land that was very unloved by our council It is my project to beautify my street. I have an extensive bird life amongst the trees orchids ferns natives bromeliads elks stags  it is a peaceful well loved park by our community 

Materials

Soil fertilisers home grown compost mixed with purchased chicken manure Plants hanging baskets hoses nozzles sprinklers bird baths rocks stones bark chip

Steps

Step 1

Cut back weeded cleaned out 30 years of rubbish

Step 2

Rebuilt up the soil base with compost 

positioned 16 rainforest rocks around the park to  stop cars driving through it

Step 3

Transplanted elks stags and native orchids on to the palm trees and acacias

Added plants spread seeds and pruned routinely

Step 5

Chose plants for the various sections of the garden beds. had the council remove a lot of the bad palm trees and fig trees that were struggling to grow

 vegetation that was hardy sun tough and offered minimal work plus would bring moisture back into the garden beds

Chose to grow back grass and pull the bonfire clover seasonally

 I organise neighbourhood clean up days

 seasonally there is always colour in the park due to annuals and perennials

 the park is very lush and rich in variation and moist many lizards birds hares bats and parrots fur to the new eccosystem

crested

 orchids of many varieties and colours have filled the trees elks and stags in the park 

they are propagated naturally

That’s such a wonderful project to take on. You’ve really transformed the park into something special. Rebuilding the soil base and thoughtfully choosing hardy, low-maintenance plants were both great decisions that will help it thrive long-term. It’s clear the space is now a peaceful and well-loved part of your community. Well done!

Thanks Mitch I have moved up the street to the next park to do the same basics 

it is all about getting the soil back to fertile to grow and keep plants alive 

use a lot of dynamic lifter to kick things off
