Hey All,
I have a very bland wall that I would like to add some colour too.
I'm thinking of adding a narrow-ish pot (something like this https://www.bunnings.com.au/northcote-pottery-80cm-black-terrazzo-look-precinct-lite-trough_p2831989) and perhaps some form of climbing plant (Orange Trumpet, Jasmine etc etc) to cover the area highlighted in blue:
Wall is Western facing (photo taken at 4pm) so plenty of sunlight.
Adding a trellis system (either wires or wooden frame) is no issue, but I'm unsure whether a climbing plant would become unruly and perhaps cause issues?
I'm thinking of adding some form of shade (two of these: https://www.bunnings.com.au/altamonte-1200-x-700mm-atlanta-tinted-fluted-canopy-with-plastic-bracket... over the sliding doors, as the laundry get very hot) so would like the plant to fill the gap between these and the eave.
Am I being a little ambitious?
Thanks for your help!
Hello @NotHarryPotter
Your idea of using the Northcote Pottery 80cm Black Terrazzo Look Precinct Lite Trough is perfect for that spot. It is large enough for the plants but not so big that it gets in the way while you walk in the area. Installing the Altamonte 1200 x 700mm Atlanta Tinted Fluted Canopy With Plastic Bracket should provide the much-needed shade for that area and cool off the laundry room. I think these are very sound plans and are not unreasonable. Adding a mesh or trellis will guide the plants where to grow and provide a touch of greenery which is always a plus.
I totally support your plans and if you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hey Eric,
Many Thanks for getting back to me.
Do you have any concerns regarding the type of climbing plant I should use, or do you think (with regular maintenance and pruning) I can be free to choose?
Hello @NotHarryPotter
That is exactly what I was about to say to you. If you regularly maintain and prune your plant you will be free to choose whatever plant you want. It is only when you neglect your plant and its needs does it begin to falter.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Perfect. 😊
