How to remove weeds from lawn?

We recently bought a house but the back garden was overrun with weeds. Can you please advise me on how to remove them? I have tried Weed and Feed - I did follow the instructions on the bottle but it did not work. Also it is different types of weeds.

Re: How will you remove all these weeds?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Engelah. It's marvellous to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about removing weeds.

Most of those weeds do look like they’ve copped a decent hit already. Out of curiosity, how long ago did you apply the weed and feed? It can take up to a full week to see the results, and judging by the drooping leaves and general look of the patches, it seems like the product is already starting to work.

If it’s only been a few days since application, I’d hold off just a little longer before doing anything else. Many of the tougher weeds will need a follow-up treatment anyway, so once that week’s up, I’d recommend a second application. That should knock out most of the broadleaf weeds like dandelions.

That said, I can spot a few more stubborn types in there — it looks like you’ve got a creeping weed running through the lawn, and possibly some onion weed as well. Unfortunately, selective weed and feed products often aren’t strong enough to kill those off. For those, I’d suggest using a non-selective herbicide like a glyphosate product, but only as a spot treatment. Using the Zero Weeding Brush, you can apply it directly to the leaves of the weeds without risking damage to your surrounding lawn or plants.

So, in short: wait a few more days if it’s only been recently sprayed, follow up with a second application after a week, then tackle the remaining hardier weeds with a direct herbicide treatment.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: How will you remove all these weeds?

Hi Mitchell,

I applied the weed and feed Friday. So I will wait a little longer. Thanks for the advise I really appreciate it.
