Re: how can I stop pest or bugs from eating my strawberries?

Hi @lochlan2,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Strawberries attract a few different pests, so the damage you are seeing could be from a mix of causes. Holes and chewed leaves are commonly from caterpillars or slugs and snails, while strawberries that disappear or are heavily eaten are often birds or nocturnal pests. If you can identify what specific pest is causing the issue, this would certainly help us to address the problem confidently. If you can't see anything during the day, then checking them at night, or setting up a camera to record overnight, could certainly help.

Physical protection is a good first step. Anti Insect Net draped over a small frame or an Insect Net Grow Tunnel will stop birds and larger pests.

For caterpillars, a spray like Eco-Caterpillar-Killer works well and only targets caterpillars without harming beneficial insects.

If slugs and snails are an issue, Multiguard Snail And Slug Killer can be spread around your strawberries to deter them.

Identifying the cause of the damage is the first step. If you can identify the cause and get back to me, I can certainly assist further, but I imagine it will be either caterpillars, slugs or snails or birds.

Let me know what you think, and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jacob
