Re: brown spots on peace lily

Hello @jay8991

The brown spots on your peace lily leaves are most likely a sign of stress or disease. There are a few common causes to consider:

First, overwatering is a frequent issue. Peace lilies like consistently moist soil, but not soggy. If the roots sit in water for too long, they can develop root rot, which shows up as brown or black patches on the leaves. Make sure the pot has drainage holes and allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings.

Second, fungal or bacterial leaf spot diseases can cause small brown spots that may spread over time. These are more likely to occur in humid environments or if water often sits on the leaves. If this is the case, prune off the affected leaves and avoid splashing water on the foliage. Improving airflow around the plant will also help.

Third, low humidity or too much direct sunlight can stress the leaves, creating dry, crispy brown spots. Peace lilies prefer bright but indirect light and do best with some humidity in the air. If your plant is near a sunny window, try moving it back a little or using a sheer curtain.

Lastly, over-fertilizing can burn the roots and lead to spotting. If you’ve recently fertilized, try flushing the soil with water to wash out excess salts and then reduce feeding frequency.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
