Seating Area on Retaining Wall

Hi

I have a retaining wall in my backyard 600mm high and 400mm from the fence to the retaining wall . I am planning to do a seating area on the retaining wall , attaching a timber frame (TIMBER FRAME LIKE  " ] ") to the back fence and fill it with soil and install the pavers by using the liquid nail to the timber frame  . But I'm not sure whether its suitable or not in this situation.  Can anyone please help me with this ?
Thanks

Re: Seating Area on Retaining Wall

Hi @Cham1,

We’ll need a bit more information about exactly how you intend to fill the frame and what area you’ll be filling with soil. In principle, if you build a solid frame that is mounted securely, you could pave over it. However, attaching the frame directly to your fence is likely not suitable, because fence posts, the bottom rail, and timber boards aren’t designed to bear the weight of soil and pavers.

One option could be to install an additional line of sleepers or posts at the rear of the wall and attach your frame to those, so the weight is properly supported. To give more precise advice, it would be helpful if you could draw a side-on diagram showing how you plan to construct this frame. That way, our members can better understand your approach and suggest the safest way to proceed.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi @MitchellMc

Thank you for the advice !

I have drew my plan .  For pegs  i am planning to use the Jack 450mm heavy duty steel sleeper peg flat stake and Jack 450mm heavy duty steel sleeper corner stake.( hammered directly to the ground with out concrete )

Re: Seating Area on Retaining Wall

Hi @Cham1,

That could potentially work. However, the stakes are only designed to hold garden edges, not to support the weight of your pavers or seated people. I would suggest you need a more structurally sound plan, with posts set in concrete to support the rear section. This is obviously difficult with the bed full of soil.
