What hedger and blower vac to buy?

What hedger and blower vac to buy?

I’m looking for recommendations for a good-quality hedger and a blower/vacuum. I have hedging along the fence, approximately 40 metres in length, so I need something reliable and efficient for regular maintenance.

I also want to clean up leaves on the mulch, so I’m after a blower/vacuum that can handle that well. I’m preferably looking at Ryobi, but I’m open to other brands if they offer better performance or value.

Would love to hear your suggestions and experiences — thanks in advance!

Re: Hedger and Blower/Vaccum

Hi @RK07,

When it comes to power tools, especially those on a battery platform, it is always best to pick a brand and run with it because you'll have batteries that are interchangeable between the tools.

If you already have some battery-powered tools, then sticking with the same battery platform is likely the best option. If not, and this is your first power tool purchase, then each power tool brand will have options with varying prices and specific uses.

If you don't currently have any battery-powered tools, I would suggest looking at Ryobi and Ozito, as they are both great options for home DIY that have a huge selection of tools on their battery platforms. Starting with a kit, which contains a tool, a battery, and a charger, will set you up well. You can then expand out with other tools.

In Ryobi's range, this Ryobi 18V ONE+ 45cm Hedge Trimmer 2.0Ah Kit is a good option that comes with a 2 Ah battery and charger to get you started on the platform. This would work well on the front of your hedge, but if you needed some extra reach, you could also look into a pole trimmer like this Ryobi 18V ONE+ 40cm EZ REACH™ Pole Hedge Trimmer R18PHT130.

For the blower vac, this Ryobi 18V ONE+ Cordless Garden Vacuum And Sweeper R18XBLV20 is a good option, which I have used in my own home to tidy up hedge trimmings. It worked great for me, and I'm sure it will work great for you. If you wanted another battery, the Ryobi 18V ONE+ 6.0Ah HP Garden Vacuum And Sweeper Kit is the same tool with a high amp-hour battery and charger included.

Ozito also offer a wide range of tools for this purpose at a reasonable price. Check out the Ozito PXC 18V 460mm Cordless Hedge Trimmer 2.0Ah Kit PXCHTK-218, Ozito PXC 18V Pole Hedge Trimmer and Ozito PXC 18V Brushless Blower Vacuum PXBVS-018.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Re: What hedger and blower vac to buy?

Thank you @JacobZ  for the details. I will go with Ryobi as I have few Ryobi tools.

Re: Hedger and Blower/Vaccum

Hi @JacobZ

I’ve purchased this one https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-18v-one-cordless-garden-vacuum-and-sweeper-r18xblv20-tool-only_p03...

I currently have two Ryobi One+ 18V batteries — a 2.0Ah and a 4.0Ah. I’m planning to trade in the 2.0Ah battery and buy two 18V 5.0Ah batteries, as Bunnings is currently offering $50 off.

That will leave me with three 18V batteries in total — one 4.0Ah and two 5.0Ah — which I believe should be sufficient for the blower/vacuum.

Re: Hedger and Blower/Vaccum

Sounds like a good plan @RK07.

Having a few batteries, especially the higher amperage ones, always comes in handy when you are juggling tools.

Hopefully, everything lives up to expectations. I'm sure they will.

Jacob
