Re: How to increase cabinet space

Hey @hira Welcome to Workshop great you join us on here.

A few ideas come to my mind that you might be able to extend on to the bench without having to install an additional matching stone top.

1. Install some Kaboodle cabinets as required and fits then install a timber laminate top so it is more of the look of a butchers block.

https://www.bunnings.com.au/search/products?q=kaboodle&sort=BoostOrder&page=1

2. Look to one of the mobile kitchen islands on Bunnings Market Place as below

https://www.bunnings.com.au/products/indoor-living/dining-room/mobile-kitchen-islands

There is also some fantastic cupboard storage solutions within the homewares section of Bunnings Stores which will keep things in order

Other than that if you head into your local store and have a chat to the kitchen specialists they should have some fantastic ideas as well.

Hope that helps some.

Re: How to increase cabinet space

Hello @hira

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's fabulous to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about increasing space in your kitchen.

I suggest having a quick look at this guide - How to plan a kitchen renovation by @Adam_W. Looking at the photo you posted it is possible to add more cabinets. However, in order to do it, the fixed pantry will need to be removed to make way for the transfer of the refrigerator. I then suggest putting a corner pantry at the end which will allow you to either link up another pantry or a base/wall cabinet combo.

Unfortunately, the sink is too close to the corner and will have to be moved so that you can link the cabinets coming along from the corner pantry. The microwave can then be positioned on the side of the new cabinets. But if you are after just a few cabinets, the most that you can add would be an extra cabinet next to the island and perhaps two wall cabinets at the far end near the sink.

Let me call on our experienced members @redbournreno and @Remarka6le for their recommendations.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Re: How to increase cabinet space

Thank you for the mention @EricL ,

I have no idea what the dimensions of the room are, so I just put something together to give a general idea on how I would do this.

I'd push the kitchen out a little and utilise that side wall by placing the oven and stove there (excuse the image, but imagine a stove / oven combo under the extraction hood). I could then maximise as much wall and base cabinet space as possible including the bench space. I'd knock out the built in and place some units there that could accomodate a microwave (just imagine that's a built in microwave) and place the fridge at the very end. Pull out fittings in both base corner units means you can access all the space in those two sections.

I would bring the sink out to take it away from the wall and have the dishwasher to its left, followed by another cabinet for either storage or a waste bin. The depth of those cabinets would be enough for people to sit at and enjoy a meal should they wish.

That's my two cents anyway. Good luck with the designing!
